The Fine Line (Between Fact and Fiction)

Evelyn LaStella began this new series of paintings against a backdrop of political chaos where she found it difficult to differentiate fact from fiction, and she realized that all her paintings, no matter how representational, are a fiction of sorts (she cannot make a flower, only the image of a flower).

Evelyn decided to lean into her fictional depictions through exaggerated color and scale, shapes within shapes, and emphasized line work. Evelyn’s intention was that each piece be very obviously a new object, clearly made by a human hand and not pretending to be anything other than a painting.

Evelyn’s reception on Saturday, October 18, 4-6pm, coincides with the last Rhinebeck Arts Walk of the season
